Promoting Revision through Blogging in a Second Grade Classroom

Murray (1998) describes the benefits of using a computer to write and revise. He explains the ease of cutting, pasting and moving text around during the drafting and rewriting stages. Using  online blogs to compose and revise writing with a wider audience is a beneficial assignment or exercise. The use of blogs was explored as a digital tool that allowed second grade writers to collaborate with their peers to revise and to increase their writing proficiency, as they progress through the writing cycle steps. Blogging can be a powerful tool to motivate and empower students to revise their writing without the aid of the teacher and to prepare students to provide constructive feedback in a technological context.

Supporting Learning with Weblogs in Ecience education A comparison of Blogging and Hand-written Reflective Writing
with and without Prompts

Writing learning protocols leads to greater learning gains if the writing is guided with prompts. The selection of the writing medium (weblog or paper) appears to play a subordinate role as compared to instructional support by means of prompts. Weblogs can even show worse effects than paper-and-pencil writing if not supported by prompts. This should lead to some caution, when employing weblogs as a new tool for traditional learning protocol approaches. Future research needs to focus on the specifics of how writing weblogs for learning can be supported by teachers. the options for managing learning protocols not only as text but also in the form of drawings, mind maps, audio or video, and for linking them with the option of mobile learning. Also, we have to assume that the length of the intervention was too brief for the learners to become accustomed to their weblogs or to turn them into an integral part of their “personal learning environment”. In addition, prompts were presented as a writing instruction in advance.

DEVELOPING WRITING ABILITIES
   OF EFL STUDENTS THROUGH BLOGGING

Blogging in the writing class can contribute to the improvement of students’writing abilities. The positive effect of using blogs in writing development was possibly due to the features of blogs that students can communicate with other audiences in authentic learning environment (Noytim, 2010, Juida & Bee, 2011). On blogs, students can post their messages both academic and non-academic, then they reflect their views or comments on their friends’ writing freely. Teacher and student relationship seems to improve through blogging .When using blogs, students can get feedback from other audiences, they have an opportunity to read things in which they are interested and write things they really want to . By so doing, writing assignment becomes an easy task while it used to be considered as a boring and difficult task before. Once a student was assigned a topic to write, they had to brainstorm and organize an outline of their writing with their team. While planning their writing, every member in the team will help together. They shareideas, comment and give feedback until they got their final writing. Students learn and share with their peers and teacher during the working process. Surprisingly, students who are low proficient learners or shy and quiet ones have more participation in doing tasks by using blogs. This is probably because they have more time to think carefully before writing and giving their responses (Galien & Bowcher, 2010). Students are active learners through blogging system, so using blogs in language classroom is beneficial and suitable for undergraduate students to enhance their writing performances.
